Text, Image, Narrative | Illustration

This is part of Illustration projects 3, for Text, Image, Narrative project. I chose to do the competition from House of Illustration/Folio Society, the task is to create cover for 3 ghost stories, which are The Treasure of Abbot Thomas by M.R. James, A Tale of an Empty House by E.F.Benson and The Upper Berth by F.Marion Crawford.

I had some thought that i could do my illustration in such a dark eerie way, massively different as my style is nature, an innocent illustration. Even though in my spare time, i do watch some horror films, with my younger sister, and she had some horror books as well. Which i'll be getting more concepts for this project before sent off in final.

These concepts i did when i judged from the titles, before i read through.

So what i did on here, illustrated the cover for A Tale of an Empty House, that i was testing on the adjustments to these two, pencil sketch (soft) and charcoal, i thought these will gives strong and clear, which they did. I have to say, the charcoal looks better.



I did so many experiments to see which would work, such as graphite, charcoal, ink and print.



Then i experiment some selection in photoshop, by using the filters.




This effect was when i had low ink from the printer on blue.

I was told to re-illustrate this because i did the hand is out of perspective, then i managed to get it in perfection.





s And i completed in final and ready to sent off to the competition. These are the final illustrations.

The Monarch | Illustration

The Milkweed butterfly, also in another name of the Monarch butterfly, inspired me when I watched BBC's Spy in the Wild Series 2 in February. In episode 2 "The North", in this scene located the mountain in West Mexico, with the Spy Hummingbird capturing the place that's considered the world's most beautiful natural gathering, where the Monarch butterflies hibernated during the winter. It was Spring, the Spy hummingbird flying around millions of butterflies resting on the oyamel fir trees (I just looked it up of what kind of tree because I can't remember what it was, hehe). When the sunshine on them, warmed their delicate wings, then started to fly. And when they fly, it was absolutely spectacular, all orange and flow through the trees. I imagined myself in there, underneath them and watching them as they migrate to North. I felt calm and delight thinking about it, it was awe-inspiring. Bloom Wildly | Illustration

It's nearly the end of May, the weather for the last week of the month has been sun shining and over 22c of temperature, such lovely weather. So yesterday, I have been painting the dog rose flowers, that just blossomed nearly 2 weeks ago! Right now they're blooming quite wildly in my home garden and the front! This bush even grows over the tree, makes it so enchanting it's like in a magical summer garden. And with the wall, this can hang further that I can go underneath it for some shade. This one is new from the front as it hasn't grown there before, so it's the first time seeing this. And it's already climbing up the birch tree! It looks nice to look at through the window, where I work on some arts, plus good for some inspirations to illustrate! Whilst I was painting, I did another timelapse video on this.
