Sleepy Fox In The Jar | Craft Illustration

Hello all.

Had a splendid Christmas? I enjoyed it very much, with christmas feast, presents, films and some fun games with my family. ☺

This blog I am writing about is the fox sculpture (clay) in the jar.

I made this as a christmas present for my little sister's boyfriend, who likes foxes. I came up with the idea in late September, started to make it in November and finished in mid December in a panic way, with very little spare time I have as I have some presents to wrap, more presents to buy and work. Though it was all good, all wrapped up and placed it under the christmas tree.

The materials I used for sculpture in jar, for the sculpture I use air-dry modelling clay, a fitting shape glass jar and acrylic paints.

With these photos I did in progress stages, first stage was to take out the clay and shaping into the fox and the position I wanted, as the fox lay down in curl as the fox sleeping cosy. Then I waited for a week to dry.

I then painted in three shades of orange as first coat of paint.

Then I use black and white as details.

And then I painted small details, mostly on fox's face.

I have picked out the better size that fit well with the sleepy fox inside. To start with to sprayed the lid in copper, as the lid originally was teal. Metallic copper give a modern touch for decorative purpose. While the lid drying to give second coat, I collected thick, texture strap paper, I shredded the paper and painted brown firstly, then dark green, that they resemble the woods and leaves for a fox to sleep onto. I used PVA glue to glued the paper together and formed an almost bowl shape and made sure its fitted inside the jar. I then used the same green to paint around the bottom glass in a resemble of grass. After the paint is dried, I glued the paper and bottom of the jar and stick together.

Lastly, I used superglue onto the bottom of fox sculpture and on top of the paper and then stick together. That the superglue would hold them better and doesn't wear out in some times.

Here's the finished product!

On a Christmas day, he had opened this gift, he like it and appreciate it very much. Which is splendid.

Have a great day and hope you all have a good New Year's.
